Smiths Detection, a global leader in security screening technologies and a division of Smiths Group plc, has announced the launch of its new SDX 6040 Enhanced Image Quality (EIQ) screening solution. Designed to meet the evolving demands of contemporary security environments, this cutting-edge system aims to enhance threat detection and operational efficiency.

The SDX 6040 is touted as the best image quality screening solution available, delivering unmatched clarity in threat detection. Its mobile design distinguishes it from traditional fixed equipment, allowing for easy relocation and setup. This feature makes it particularly suitable for critical infrastructure, urban security, and diverse public and private sector applications where high safety standards are crucial.

With a compact footprint of just 80cm wide, the SDX 6040 is lightweight and easily transportable, enabling quick deployment across various sites. The system is equipped with a user-friendly touch screen interface that streamlines interaction and improves accessibility. It also integrates seamlessly with other Smiths Detection technologies and partner systems, including people screening and trace detection for narcotics and explosives, making it a versatile solution for comprehensive security needs.

    Enhanced Detection and Versatility

The SDX 6040 features a robust 160kV generator, which provides exceptional X-ray image quality for precise threat identification. This high-resolution imaging capability significantly reduces the risk of misinterpretation, allowing for quicker and more accurate threat assessments.

The system’s smart image display includes advanced features such as organic stripping and enhancement modes, which enhance the ability to differentiate between organic and inorganic materials. This capability is crucial for detecting explosives, drugs, and other contraband. The background contrast function has been optimised to reduce eye strain, supporting sustained vigilance during extended operations.

Moreover, the SDX 6040’s redesigned detection system ensures a complete view of scanned items, eliminating blind spots and improving detection accuracy. The system is also compatible with iCMORE, Smiths Detection’s AI technology, which provides automated threat detection for a broad range of prohibited items.

    Boosting Public Security

The SDX 6040 is tailored for use in high-traffic urban areas that are potential targets for security threats, including power plants, transport networks, government buildings, corporate offices, visitor attractions, prisons, cruise ships, sports venues, and world heritage sites. Its advanced technology is essential for countering threats such as terrorism, violent crime, and drug trafficking.

Dr Philo Daniel, Global Aviation and Urban Security Director at Smiths Detection, commented on the launch: “At Smiths Detection, our goal is to enhance global safety. Urban areas face increasing security challenges from various threats, and ensuring their protection is vital for public safety, national security, and economic stability.”

Dr Daniel added, “The SDX 6040 is engineered to deliver superior image quality in a compact form, providing exceptional detection capabilities while fitting seamlessly into high-traffic environments. This innovation empowers security personnel to swiftly address potential threats, reinforcing the protection of critical infrastructure and public spaces.”
