Builds Bio+, a prominent US-based life sciences organisation, has launched its London/UK chapter, enlisting 10 founding members from leading British universities, industry leaders, and prominent real estate firms. This new chapter aims to foster innovation, growth, and collaboration across the UK and Europe, building on the organisation’s success in New York and Philadelphia.

The London chapter launch represents a strategic expansion for Builds Bio+, creating an international network that will connect key players in the life sciences industry across both sides of the Atlantic. Regular virtual events are expected to enhance engagement and knowledge exchange among members in the New York Metro, Philadelphia, and newly formed London chapters.

The London/UK chapter has attracted a diverse mix of founding members, which includes University College London, SC1 London, Mace Construct, AECOM, Galileo Labs, Macfarlanes LLP, Linesight, Merrick & Company, Precis Advisory, and PLP Architecture. This blend of academia, industry, and real estate is aimed at creating an integrated life sciences ecosystem.

Nancy J Kelley, President and CEO of Nancy J Kelley + Associates, and a founding member of Builds Bio+, highlighted the potential of this new collaboration to advance life sciences across international borders. “Builds Bio+ unites the life sciences ecosystem across various markets, including academic institutions, biotech and pharmaceutical companies, service providers, and real estate developers. This collaborative approach not only identifies synergies within the industry but also accelerates innovation across regions,” Kelley said. “The UK is a renowned hub for life sciences, with parallels to New York’s vibrant industry. Expanding here allows us to strengthen transatlantic partnerships and expand the possibilities for progress in life sciences.”

The organisation’s new UK chapter will aim to establish a cooperative network that brings together the life sciences sector with academia, real estate developers, and policymakers. By drawing on lessons from the US market, the London chapter intends to address unique challenges and opportunities within the UK and European life sciences markets.

Ryan Matenchuk, CEO of Galileo Labs and a founding member of the London chapter, highlighted the importance of connecting the UK with the US’s established life sciences ecosystem. “Our aim with London/UK Builds Bio+ is to foster a thriving life sciences market in the UK, benefiting from the US’s experience in growing this sector. This collaboration enables the UK to leverage insights that can drive the success and expansion of the local market,” he stated.

This UK expansion comes as Builds Bio+ increasingly broadens its mission to create international connections that will bolster the life sciences industry. By connecting members through a series of virtual events, Builds Bio+ anticipates new avenues for shared knowledge and innovation that could catalyse growth and development across the industry.

The London chapter will also support the local life sciences ecosystem by offering opportunities to connect with the established US network of life science professionals. In turn, this exchange of expertise is anticipated to strengthen Builds Bio+’s role in shaping the future of the life sciences industry across both the UK and US. Builds Bio+ will unveil a research report covering the London/UK Life Science Study Tour at the 7th Annual Symposium for Life Science Innovation and Development on November 12, 2024, at The Times Center in New York City.
