Independent Swiss watchmaker MING has earned global recognition after its 37.09 Bluefin dive watch was awarded the Sports Watch Prize at the prestigious 2024 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG). This accolade marks the brand’s second victory at the GPHG, having won the Horological Revelation Prize in 2019.

The MING 37.09 Bluefin is a bold reimagining of what a dive watch can be, combining innovative design with high functionality. Its most striking feature is a luminous rotating sapphire dial, a modern alternative to the traditional dive bezel. The watch’s pressure-balanced case allows for water resistance up to 600 metres while maintaining a compact size of 38mm in diameter and 12.8mm in thickness. Despite its robust construction, the Bluefin includes a display back, showcasing MING’s meticulous craftsmanship.

Ming Thein, Founder and Chief Creative of MING, expressed pride in the achievement:

“The Bluefin continues the quest for innovation that has defined us since inception in 2017. From sapphire mosaics to luminous materials, the world’s lightest mechanical watches, and universal bracelets, every MING timepiece embodies the dedication of our team and expert partners.”

The GPHG, often referred to as the Oscars of the watchmaking world, celebrates excellence and innovation in horology. The Sports Watch Prize is awarded to timepieces that blend technical precision with rugged utility, making the Bluefin’s recognition a testament to MING’s ethos of pushing design boundaries while maintaining functionality.

MING’s journey began in 2017 with a commitment to challenging conventions in watchmaking. Over the years, the brand has cultivated a loyal following among collectors for its forward-thinking designs and collaborative production processes.

The MING team extended gratitude to the GPHG Jury, the Academy, and its community of collectors and partners for their role in achieving this milestone.

As the Bluefin takes its place among the most celebrated timepieces in the industry, MING’s dedication to innovation and excellence continues to set it apart in the world of fine watchmaking.
